On April 9, 2014, nearly 6,000 middle school students will pack Joe Riley Park to see a chemistry magic show, animal bones, brain models, a planet walk, robotics… oh, and a baseball game. The College of Charleston School of Sciences and Mathematics is teaming up with the Charleston RiverDogs to host the first Education Day of the year.

The gates will open at 10 a.m. and Charleston County School District (CCSD) students will spend the next  hour learning about STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) fields and the opportunities available. At 11:05 a.m., the RiverDogs will take on the Greenville Drive in the Battle of the Palmetto State Rivalry Series.

“It is crucial to expose all students to the STEM fields, and we’re grateful the Charleston RiverDogs are partnering with us,” says Cynthia Hall, director of the Lowcountry Hall of Science and Math at the College of Charleston. “We hope each student sees something on Wednesday that sparks their interest in these fields.”
