The College of Charleston is receiving more than 2,000 recycling bins from the Alcoa Foundation Recycling Bin Grant Program. This is enough bins to provide one in each residence hall room and a step toward getting bins in every office on campus.

College to Host Debate on Supreme Court Session

The College of Charleston political science department will host a panel discussion on the current U.S. Supreme Court session entitled “ Justice for the Justices?: The Supreme Court Rules” on April 3, 2013. The panel discussion will be held in the Wells Fargo Auditorium starting at 7 p.m.

More than 25 College of Charleston students will present their research as part of the third annual William V. Moore Student Research Conference on March 29, 2013. The student researchers are divided into six panels focusing on the following topics: American Politics and Processes, Global Politics and Spaces, and the Politics of Ideas; with papers on topics from the Tea Party to Chinese politics in Tibet; from the port of Charleston to children’s environmental literature; from campaign finance to human trafficking. Bonner Leaders Honor Donors with Day of Service

Twenty students from the Bonner Leader Program at the College of Charleston spent a Saturday volunteering at the Charleston Animal Society to honor donors Steve and Maureen Kerrigan who recently committed $160,000 to the Bonner Leader Program. Their gift will fund domestic and international service immersion experiences for the students. As a way to say thank you, the Bonner Leaders planned a day of service focused on animal rights – an issue of importance to the couple.

Students Visit Set of TV Show to Learn Scene Design

AWsetLights, camera, action! College of Charleston theatre students got an inside look at set design when they went on location at Lifetime’s hit TV drama Army Wives. Professor Charlie Calvert’s Scene Painting class focuses primarily on scene design for the stage, but many students are interested in TV and film, so Calvert used the experience to introduce them to painting techniques used by TV artists.
