As Dr. Gibbison states, “The Bachelor of Professional Studies presents a unique opportunity for the College of Charleston to offer access to its excellent educational tradition to a different group of learners.

“I am extremely excited to be joining the College and the Charleston community,” says Gibbison. “By all indications, we will have great fun forging new partnerships in the community, all the while putting people at the forefront of economic development.”

At Georgia Southern, Gibbison coordinated assurance of learning activity in the College of Business Administration, creating a multi-level, multi-year sustainable assessment program. He also launched the online Master of Science in Applied Economics and directed that program for three years, leading to a vibrant program with robust enrollment and a strong record of student success.

Gibbison has been a consultant with the World Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank and the Government of Jamaica. This work includes developing criteria for identifying poor women and children for social security benefits in order to enhance participation in health care, education for children and pre- and post natal care for mothers and children.

His research focuses on household decision-making in developing countries. In particular, he focuses on factors that affect the welfare of children. He also conducts research on health behavior and interactions between the economy and the environment. He is co-author of the book Crime and Development: The Jamaican Experience.

“Dr. Gibbison has exactly the right combination of academic leadership experience, business acumen and entrepreneurial spirit to ensure the rapid development of our credit and non-credit course and degree offerings at the North Campus,” says Provost George Hynd. “Dr. Gibbison’s leadership and vision are important in fulfilling the College’s commitment to adults, to raising degree attainment in the region and across the state, and to fueling the economic recovery. We are fortunate that Dr. Lynne Ford and the North Campus Dean Search Committee identified such a capable new leader for the North Campus.”
