Scholarships Fund Graduate Student Study Abroad Opportunities

Posted on 13 April 2012 | 8:59 am

For the first time, The Graduate School of the College of Charleston will offer six study abroad scholarships for graduate students to travel overseas during summer 2012.  Dianne Culhane, a member of the Graduate School Advisory Board provided the generous donation in order for these students to travel abroad.

Amy McCandless, dean of The Graduate School of the College of Charleston says, “At the graduate level, when students combine their knowledge with the experience of studying abroad, they develop a significantly different perspective of their place in a global society.  The students are challenged by new experiences, their network expands, and they have the opportunity to put into practice what they learned in their classes.”

Three Master of Science in Accountancy students will be traveling to London, Venice, and Florence to study European financial markets and the European origins of modern accountancy.  Two students will be going to India as a part of the Master of Science in Environmental Studies program to see how policies in a developing country balance between environmental protection and economic sustainability.  And one Master of Public Administration student will be going to London and Dublin to study social media and the international press.

The Graduate School is focused on providing scholarships for graduate students that enable them to engage in research projects and to present their findings at national and international conferences.
