The College of Charleston is combining the tools of economics with the world of soccer in an alternative spring break experience. Fourteen students have spent the past six weeks reading and discussing Soccernomics (written by Simon Kuper and Stefan Szymanski). On Sunday, March 4, 2012, they will leave for a seven-day trip to the United Kingdom, where they will visit five professional soccer stadiums, watch two matches, and have business-related discussions with team leaders and university officials. On March 29, 2012, the Charleston community will be able to sample dozens of cultures from around the world without leaving the College of Charleston campus. The annual World Cultures Fair, hosted by the School of Languages, Cultures, and World Affairs, will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the Stern Center Garden (rain location, Stern Center Ballroom). Nearly two hundred College of Charleston students partied with a purpose on Friday, February 24, 2012. Dance Marathon (DM) is the College’s largest student-run philanthropy and in just four years has raised more than $200,000 for the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) Children’s Hospital. Tim Wise will present “Colorblind: The Rise of Post-Racial Politics and the Retreat from Racial Equality” on Monday, February 27, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. in Physicians Auditorium. The College of Charleston men’s swimming & diving squad won the 2012 Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association (CCSA) Championship, the school’s third conference title since the beginning of the conference in 2007-08. In winning their third championship, the men’s squad have won more CCSA titles than any other program. The Cougars scored 890.50 points to beat out rival Davidson. The women’s squad scored a program-best 267 points as they took seventh place overall. Read More
