The College of Charleston is offering a Spanish-speaking admissions campus tour and information session on Saturday, February 11, 2012 at 11:30 a.m. The traditional English-speaking tour and information session will be held simultaneously. Students can register for either tours on the admissions website (no distinction necessary when registering).

Students whose first language is Spanish do not visit campus as often as their English-speaking peers. But, the College’s Spanish-speaking admissions counselor is constantly getting calls from families who want to speak with someone in Spanish. In light of this, the Office of Admissions will be offering this trial tour in hopes of giving Spanish-speaking families the same welcoming and comfortable campus experience that English-speaking families receive.

“Students from diverse backgrounds are so important to the College and we understand that it can be very daunting to go through the admissions process when there is a difficulty in communicating,” says Susan Oakes, associate director of admissions. “It is important the lines of communication are open not just for the prospective student, but also for his/her family. Families are the biggest influencer in a student’s decision about applying and attending college and we want to make sure families receive all the information about our campus in the most familiar language possible.”
