College of Charleston President George Benson spoke on January 30 at a national meeting of over 200 leading financial professionals and university treasury officials. The meeting was sponsored by the Treasury Institute for Higher Education.

The president welcomed the annual meeting of the Treasury Symposium to the Charleston Place Hotel in Charleston’s Historic District. His speech emphasized the financial challenges facing public higher education in the 21st century. The president identified strategies for overcoming those financial challenges.

The Treasury Institute for Higher Education promotes excellence in treasury and financial management through developing educational programs and the sharing of best practices. The Institute’s goal is to improve the efficiency, effectiveness and service delivery of the treasury and financial operations of educational institutions by developing and offering program content of superior quality. The Institute primarily serves senior treasury professionals at larger educational institutions.
