The Department of Communication Advisory Council welcomes Mike Touhill, Connie Hubbell, Brad Horn, Edna Johnson, and Meredith Artley. The Council promotes the recognition and progress of communication instruction at the College of Charleston. The Advisory Council is made up of an outstanding and nationally prominent group of communication professionals who aid the Department of Communication in developing curricula, creating and improving departmental programs, and calling attention to the many accomplishments of the department’s students and faculty.

Mike Touhill leads all public relations efforts for Kiawah Partners, a luxury residential real estate developer based in Charleston, South Carolina, whose properties include Kiawah Island, South Carolina, The Lodge at Doonbeg, County Clare Ireland and Christophe Harbour, St. Kitts.  In this role, Mike serves as the company spokesperson, directs all international and national media relations, develops strategic public relations campaigns, prepares executive written communication and manages third-party consultants. Mike has also worked for Ogilvy Public Relations Worldwide in Washington, D.C.  and for The Martin Agency in Richmond, Virginia.

Constance Hubbell is the president of The Hubbell Group, Inc., a full-service independent public relations firm she founded in 1995. The Hubbell Group (www.hubbellgroup.com) provides strategic communications counsel and services to Fortune 500 firms, multinationals and smaller companies that are leaders in industries including financial services, healthcare, education, aviation and real estate. Prior to founding The Hubbell Group, Hubbell was director of media relations and chief spokesperson at Fidelity Investments, chief spokesperson and vice president of media relations at Bank of Boston Corporation, and an account supervisor at Boston-based Cabot Public Relations.

Bradford Horn is senior director, communications and education, for the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in Cooperstown, New York. He oversees the organization’s communications, education and multimedia departments, with overall responsibilities for the institution’s branding and messaging functions. Horn has also served in communications roles for the National Hot Rod Association, the Texas Rangers Baseball Club and the Fort Worth Fire, a minor league hockey organization.

Meredith Artley is vice president and managing editor of CNN Digital, where she oversees all editorial initiatives for CNN.com and CNN Mobile. She joined CNN in October 2009. Before joining CNN, Artley was a managing editor for the Los Angeles Times and the executive editor of LATimes.com and editor and digital development director for the International Herald Tribune’s web operation in Paris. She began her journalism career at NYTimes.com, where she pioneered web journalism in the early days, and was a member of the Pulitzer prize winning team for the NYT’s “Race in America” series in 2000.
