    College to Host Adam Smith Week

    The School of Business’ Initiative for Public Choice and Market Process at the College of Charleston is holding the Third Annual Adam Smith Week from March 21 – 25, 2011.

    The events are free and open to the public.

    One of the main attractions of the week will be a viewing of an original copy of Adam Smith’s famed book, An Inquiry into the Causes of the Wealth of Nations, on Tuesday, March 22 during the 3 p.m. event. The book was acquired last year and is part of the College of Charleston Friends of the Library’s rare book collection.

    All events will be held in the Wachovia Auditorium at the School of Business Beatty Center located on 5 Liberty Street.

    Monday March 21, 7 p.m.
    “Rethinking Microfinance: Coming to Grips with Market Forces”
    Dr. Scott Pearson Director of the MBA Program &Assistant Professor of Business and Economics, Charleston Southern University

    Tuesday March 22, 3 p.m.
    “The ‘Adam Smith Problem’: Can Markets and Morality Mix?”
    Dr. James Otteson Professor of Philosophy and Economics, Yeshiva University

    Wednesday March 23, 3:30 p.m.
    “Crony Capitalism vs. Real Capitalism: Lessons from the Financial Crisis”
    Dr. Russell Roberts Professor of Economics George Mason University

    Thursday March 24, 7 p.m.
    “Adam Smith’s Critique of the Free Market Economy”
    Dr. Spenser Pack, Professor of Economics, Connecticut College
