Beginning today, the College of Charleston will provide all students with access to Google Apps for Education. More than 11,000 students will have the opportunity to be connected on a common system that integrates e-mail, chat, calendar, documents and other multimedia tools. Cmail — as the college has named their customized version of Google’s email service — will offer every student an email address “@g.cofc.edu” that features increased email storage, better spam filtering and powerful search capabilities. The College of Charleston, one of the of top 25 “Peace Corps Volunteer Producing Colleges and Universities,” hosts two events for people interested in joining the Peace Corps. On Monday, April 11, there will be a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer Panel Discussion at 6:00 p.m. in room 409 of the Stern Student Center and on Tuesday, April 12, there will be an information session at 2:30 p.m. in Stern Student Center room 206.

Research by College of Charleston Biology Assistant Professor, Andrew Clark, shows that moving quickly across a slippery surface is less likely to lead to a fall than if you move slowly. His conclusions are published in the March 24, 2011 issue of the Journal of Experimental Biology, a leading journal in comparative animal physiology. Clark and Clemson University’s Timothy Higham (assistant professor of biology) found that major fall-avoidance strategies over low-friction surfaces are conserved across speeds and limbed terrestrial animals.
