The College of Charleston’s Department of Communication will honor Senior Vice President, Strategic Planning and Development of CBS Television Studios, Jim McKairnes, with its “Distinguished Communicator” award. The 2010 Excellence in Collegiate Education and Leadership (ExCEL) Awards ceremony will be held on March 30, 2010 at the Sottile Theatre. A reception will start at 4:00 p.m. and the awards presentation at 5:00 p.m. The event is free, however tickets are required for entry. Tickets can be picked up through March 23 at the Multicultural Student Center (207 Calhoun St) or in the President’s Office (Randolph Hall). Read More

Troy Lesesne, who is completing coursework this semester as a master’s degree student in Communication at College of Charleston, received the Paul Harris Fellow award on Tuesday, March 2 at the Mount Pleasant Rotary meeting. The award is given to someone who raises $1,000 or more for the Rotary Annual Programs Fund. Read More

College of Charleston President P. George Benson spoke at the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Economic Outlook Conference on March 23.
President Benson’s speech, “Moving South Carolina Forward,” discussed South Carolina’s isolated economy and aerospace giant Boeing’s plans to build an assembly plant for the 787 Dreamliner in North Charleston. Read More

College of Charleston head women’s basketball coach Nancy Wilson has been named the 2010 FCA Kay Yow Heart of a Coach award-winner as announced by the Fellowship of Christian Athletes on Wednesday, March 24. The award, in its third year, will be presented on Sunday, April 4 during a breakfast ceremony at the NCAA Women’s Final Four in San Antonio, Texas. Read More
