Eighth-graders from the Charleston County School of the Arts (SOA) are getting a first-hand look at the College of Charleston in the first-ever shadow day available to eighth graders. Twelve SOA students have been matched up with a College of Charleston student who shares similar academic interests. The SOA student will attend at least two classes with the College student and eat lunch in a dining facility on campus. The shadow day is January 15, 2010.

“This is a really unique opportunity for the SOA students,” says Hailey Ezekiel, visitor services counselor. “At a very early age, these students are able to experience college life, which will hopefully get them excited about attending college. Plus, they see professors in action, which makes the idea of college a lot less intimidating.”

The students will be sitting in on classes ranging from upper-level biology to political science, public speaking and dance.
