National Debt Expert to Speak at the College

Mallory Factor, a national opinion maker in economics and finance, will speak at the College of Charleston’s School of Business on Tuesday, February 2, 2010.  His presentation, Death By Debt: The End of America The Great, is open to the public and will foster engaging audience dialogue.

Student Earns Rotary Scholarship

College of Charleston Senior Caroline Burns has been awarded a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship for the 2010-2011 academic year. Her Rotary Scholarship will support a year of study in the master’s program in human rights at Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda. In addition, Caroline plans to work with a Rotary Club in Kampala on a project that serves AIDS orphans. A native of Columbia, SC, Burns is a 2006 graduate of A.C. Flora High School. She is a political science major and economics minor.

Graduate School Announces Advisory Board

The Graduate School of the College of Charleston announces the creation of a Graduate School Advisory Board.  The Board will help to raise the visibility of the Graduate School, provide professional experiences for students and identify potential sources of financial support. The Advisory Board will hold its first meeting on January 27 and 28, 2010 on the College of Charleston campus.

Students Promote Literacy in Elementary Schools

College of Charleston is partnering with the Charleston County School District for Cougars Taking Action – the service component of Homecoming Week 2010. In celebration of Homecoming, the College of Charleston hopes to unite the campus and connect with the community while impacting elementary students in the downtown area.

College of Charleston Board of Trustees Meeting

The College of Charleston Board of Trustees will hold their regular meeting on January 28-19, 2010. The January 28 schedule includes a series of committee meetings at various locations on the College of Charleston campus. On January 29, the Board of Trustees will meet in the President’s Board Room starting at 8:30 a.m.

"What's so funny" Debuts Wednesday

The series, “What’s so funny?,” explores the nature of humor and the powerful role it plays in politics, medicine, literature and film. All events are free and open to the public.

Music Professor Performs with CSO

College of Charleston music professor and alumnus Quentin Baxter is performing with the Charleston Symphony Orchestra on January 22 and 23 with renowned guest conductor Edwin Outwater. Quentin Baxter and Friends is a jazz ensemble that will perform various configurations with the CSO. The group includes trumpeter Charlton Singleton, saxophonist Mark Sterbank, pianist Tommy Gill and acoustic bassist Kevin Hamilton. The concerts are at 8:00 p.m. at Memminger Auditorium. Tickets are $25-45 and available at any Ticketmaster outlet.

Student and Faculty Art Exhibit Opens at Redux

Presentation Kicks Off New Italian Class

The Italian Program at the College of Charleston presents “Italians Exploring the Arctic” on Friday, February 19 at 6:00 p.m. in Physicians Auditorium. This event combines a lecture by Mirella Tenderini (managing editor and writer) and a drum performance by Glen Velez. Music for the evening will have a Nordic theme and the lecture will focus on the life of the Duke of Abruzzi, the Father of Italian Mountaineering.
