The Yaschik/Arnold Jewish Studies Program at the College of Charleston is celebrating its 25th anniversary with a weekend of activities starting on October 23. Since 1984, the Jewish Studies Program has shaped and sustained a high-quality curriculum and an exciting social environment for more than 700 Jewish students and others at the College of Charleston. The community outreach component is unmatched by any Jewish Studies program of its size in the country.

Today, Jewish Studies faculty teach eight to 10 courses each semester in Jewish history, culture, philosophy and language. Future plans may lead to the addition of a Jewish Studies major to the curriculum. The Jewish Studies Center houses the offices of the Jewish Historical Society of South Carolina – the largest statewide Jewish organization in South Carolina – and works hand-in-hand with the staff of the Jewish Heritage Collection located in the Addlestone Library.

Friday highlights include a walking tour of Jewish Charleston, sample classes, a Shabbat dinner and a performance poking at Jewish humor by the The Have Nots!, a Charleston-based improvisational comedy troupe!

On Saturday, there will be lectures, activities for the Jewish Parent Networking Group, a private viewing of the Jewish Heritage Collection and cocktails with College of Charleston President P. George Benson and his wife Jane.
