BiblioLabs Establishes Computer Science Scholarships

The College of Charleston has announced today that BiblioLabs LLC will support four four-year tuition scholarships to academically competitive South Carolina students pursing a degree in computer science. BiblioLabs owner and CEO Bob Holt says he hopes the scholarships will attract new computer science majors who demonstrate independent, creative and clever thinking. » Read Full Article

Lecture on Hoover, FDR and the Present

The College of Charleston Friends of the Library is presenting a lecture by Richard Norton Smith on the relationship between Presidents Herbert Hoover and Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Smith will look at the pair, who were once neighbors and friends, but became political adversaries during a time in the U.S. similar to present day. » Read Full Article

Dance Marathon Pumping Up

Jewish Studies Celebrates 25 Years

The Yaschik/Arnold Jewish Studies Program at the College of Charleston is celebrating its 25th anniversary with a weekend of activities starting on October 23. Since 1984, the Jewish Studies Program has shaped and sustained a high-quality curriculum and an exciting social environment for more than 700 Jewish students and others at the College of Charleston. Grand Opening of Halsey Institute Friday

The Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art at the College of Charleston will open the doors of its new gallery space, located in The Marion and Wayland H. Cato Jr. Center for the Arts with the exhibition, Aldwyth: Work v. / Work n. – Collage and Assemblage 1991- 2009. Innovative Computer Science Classroom

Students in the College of Charleston’s Department of Computer Science returned this semester to an innovative new classroom that puts students, thus learning, at the center of the room ­ literally. Room 220, in the JC Long Building (corner of Liberty and St. Philip Streets), now features students in a circle in the center of the room with screens covering the walls. The professor stands in the center, equidistant from every student. Both faculty and students who use the room report it is an overwhelming success. » Read Full Article

Students Dash for Trash

On your mark, get set, dash! On Saturday, October 24, College of Charleston student teams will grab a grocery cart, garbage bags and gloves and dash into downtown Charleston to participate in the annual litter-collecting scavenger hunt, Dash for Trash. Teams of students scour the city for cigarette butts, used batteries, old hub caps and bagged dog litter to rack up points. Each type of litter has a different value associated with it and teams that find one of the Golden Tickets get to add even more points to their score. The student teams that show the most spirit, collect the most recyclables and accumulate the most points will win prizes. » Read Full Article
